The SCCG played against the ICCV in their 5th match of the division 2 league of the ACA, on saturday the 2 July at 11:00 am. The ICCV won the toss and put SCCG to bat first. Change in the opening slots for SCCG with Jimmy and Saeed saw a great result as the two opened the innings spectacularly. The two of them consistently put on runs on the scoreboard by dispatching the bad balls to the boundaries, and maintaining a run rate of around 8. Saeed was the first to get out in the 10th over after getting injured two overs earlier, but Jimmy went on with his exquisite batting after the captain vikram joined the crease. Jimmy scored 78 of 59 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes, and was caught at the boundary in the 17th over. Vikram also played his role at the crease with a score of 36 in 23 balls with 5 fours to his name, and was dismissed by the ICCV’s top bolwer of the match Ghani Ahmed. However the rest of the SCCG batsmen failed to make bigger contributions and a flurry of wickets in the end of the innings saw the SCCG total to 157/7 in 20 overs. Only 19 runs incl. extras were added to the board after the 3rd SCCG wicket.
The SCCG bowlers also had a great day with the ball. Shirzad and Shinwari started off expensively, each conceding 12 runs of their first over, with several chances for wicket. But they came back strongly in their second overs to dismiss the first ICCV opener with a spectacular catch from the SCCG captain. The ICCV captain and the other opener Ghani steadied the ICCV innings for the next few overs, by scoring off the bad balls. However, the SCCG bowlers Ghani, Harun, Jimmy and Ashok bowled beautifully conceding very few runs and putting the pressure on the chase. Several excellent fielding efforts from Aaroh in the deep 3rd man area saved a lot of precious runs for the SCCG. Eventually, just like the first innings, a flurry of wickets at the end of the innings after the 15th over made sure that the SCCG remain victorious in the match up.
The SCCG will play their next match in a week on the 09/07 against VECC at 11:00 Ball Park Graz, in their 6th match of the ACA Division 2 T20 League 2022, where they hope to continue the momentum and reach the knockout stage of the tournament.
