The SCCG lose by a close margin of 7 runs against PRCC in their fourth match of the ACA T20 league on Saturday at Ballpark Graz. In what appeared to be batting conditions, the bowlers of both sides had their field day and performed extremely well. This match turned to be an exiting low scoring match, where the tails of both batting teams had to push the score.
The PRCC won the toss and elected to bat first. Though the first ball of the match went for a four, the fiery initial spell from SCCG by Shirzad and Ghani seriously constrained the PRCC batsmen. They picked up a wicket each for their efforts by conceding few runs. The good run with the ball was continued with the joint attack from Ashok and Harun. Jimmy and Saeed bowled a few overs of spin in between, and overall, the SCCG restricted the visitors to a small total of 114/9 in the allotted 20 overs.
What appeared to be an easy chase for the one time division 2 winners became a monumentous task as the PRCC bowlers bowled excellently well, and removed 5 wickets within a matter of a few overs. The SCCG were reeling at 30/5 in 4.5 overs. However, a 35 run partnership between shirzad and saeed pumped up hopes for SCCG in chasing the total. Eventually, both Shirzad and Saeed were caught off the bowling of Sikander, and Harun, Pradeep and Venktesh had to face a tough task of chasing 30 runs with just one wicket in hand.
Ultimately the last wicket of SCCG fell in the last ball of the 18th over with a runout with just 7 runs remaining from the target score and PRCC won the match. A definitely win-able chance for SCCG had turned into a nightmare loss. The SCCG has a win to its name and 2 defeats along with a match abandoned, resulting 7th place in the table.
SCCG will play ICCV at 11:00 in Ballpark Graz on the coming Saturday, where they hope to win to remain in competition for the division 2 knockout stage.
