SCCG lose by 6 wickets against ADCC
The SCCG won the toss on saturday and elected to bat first, given the scorching hot weather in graz at noon that day. Jimmy and Vikram opened the innings for SCCG and got off a good start. After losing jimmy and karthik on quick succession the new batsman waqas and vikram slowed the innings down to ones and twos to steady the innings considerably. Both vikram and waqas played sensible cricket, hitting the bad balls to boundaries and trying to rotate strike with the good ones.
Waqas had to retire himself during the 11th over because of pain in chest and was replaced by shirzad who tried to carry on the momentum but couldnt. However vikram on the other end had to carry the innings by himself while the other batsmen came short.
Eventually once vikram got caught LBW, waqas came in and carried the innings to the end. The SCCG totalled a score of 131/8 in 20 overs with waqas scoring 47 runs of 41 balls and vikram 34 runs of 40 balls.
In the second innings, the SCCG bowlers shirzad and ghani had a great start with several close chances, but failed to make breakthroughs. The debutant Aaroh was brought in after the first spell. Though he started off with a wide, he was successful in scalping the first wicket! Good start to Aaroh’s career with Graz!
Once the wicket fell, the scoring rate dipped a bit but the ADCC batsmen were consistently rotating strike. The spinners Jimmy and Karthik were also called to bowl, increasing the pressure on the batsmen. Jimmy managed to ebb the score rate with beautifully varying line and turn, also picked up two wickets in the end. Karthik managed to pick a wicket, but his third over was expensive, with one catch dropped into the boundard for a six.
However the ADCC played really sensible cricket and chased down the target eventually on the 16th over and losing just 4 wickets. The SCCG gave 25 extra runs which could have saved a lot of effort.
