The SCCG lose their last match in the league stage, still retaining the 4th position in the group standings.
On 06.09.2020, the SCCG played its second match of the day and the last league stage match of the Division 2 against Bulls Criciket Club Salzburg (BCCS) at the Latschach Cricket Ground near Velden am Wörthersee. The SCCG eyeing the third position in the rankings and the BCCS eyeing their first win of the tournament, the match started with rain clouds looming in the distance. The BCCS won the toss and elected to bat first.
The BCCS started innings with a comfortable pace, and scoring 42/1 in the first 6 overs. Openening for BCCS, Ranjit showed his temperament by scoring boundaries almost every third ball. After being dropped twice on the field in the early innings, Ranjit made full use of the third chance and went on to score a century. Ranjit scored 110 of just 51 balls and got caught by jimmy from a very good delivery from Shyam. The other batsmen all complemented Ranjit by rotating strike, and with considerable extras and average bowling performance, the BCCS put up a massive total of 214/8 in the allotted 20 overs. Only highlight of the SCCG bowling attack was when Akash scalped two BCCS batsmen in two deliveries.
With a large total to chase, Jimmy and Adil opening for SCCG went off to a decent start, before the wickets of Jimmy and Vikram fell. Adil however, scored boundaries consistently and kept the run rate level with the requirement. However, wickets on the other end fell and eventually Adil also walked back with 37 runs of 22 balls. However, at the end of the SCCG batting line up, Shyam and Pratik found a welcome 57 run partnership for the 9th wicket, bringing the SCCG’s total to 150. Without a proper partnership in the middle, the SCCG batting did not perform up to the mark that had been shown in the match before. The SCCG lost the match by 64 runs to end the league stage of the ACA T20 Division 2 tournament, all the while retaining the 4th position in the team standings.
The SCCG will play against the First position holders VCC in their semifinal match of the ACA T20 tournament next sunday. Stay tuned for updates until then!
