The SCCG could put 121 runs on the board in reply to VCC’s total of 183 and lose by 62 runs
On 29/8/2020, the SCCG travelled to Seebarn Cricket Ground near Vienna to play against Vienna Cricket Club at their home ground. The VCC captain Quinton won the toss and rightly elected to bat first in the favourable conditions.
The VCC openers started strongly, putting up 47 runs in 4 overs before Mark got caught off Adil’s delivery. The SCCG struggled hard to adjust to the really quick outfield (as most of SCCG matches are in Graz where the outfield is slow) and bleeded quite a few boundaries. By the time SCCG fought back, the No.3 and No.4 VCC batsmen Ashwin and Akbarjan scored half centuries each and helped put up a large total of 183/6 in the allotted 20 overs. From the SCCG side, Waqas showed considerable effort with the lowest economy rate and a wicket to the boot. Shirzad picked two wickets, Adil, Jimmy and Shoaib a scalp each, while Raman remained wicketless in the two overs he bowled. The SCCG had bounced back, though late, by conceding just 40 odd runs in the last 6 overs.
Compared to the VCC’s start, the SCCG’s start seemed bleak. In 3.2 overs, the SCCG had lost both the openers and another wicket, with just 14 runs on the board. The innings slowed down with the No.5 batsman Karthik, but Raman on the other end scored consistently of every ball. The pressure building up and the slowly creeping runrates forced the lower end of the SCCG lineup to take a lot of risks, and the SCCG eventually failed the run chase. The SCCG managed to put up 121 runs for 10 wickets in reply for the target of 184 runs set up by the VCC batsmen, only the No. 3 batsman Raman scoring well with 42 runs off 44 balls for the SCCG. From the VCC’s side, the bowlers maintained a strict discipline with good line and length, with Himanshu taking 3 wickets, Wali and Akbarjan 2 wickets each, and Mark and Philip a wicket each to their name on the scoreboard.
Congratulations and applause for this effort by the VCC. Hope still lives and an honest goal to win the next two matches for the SCCG. The SCCG will play the SCC and BCC at the Latschach cricket ground in Velden am Wörthersee this sunday at 11:00 am and 15:00 pm.
Again, special mention to the SCCG supporters offground who followed the scoreboard online and supported us all the way!
