The SCCG wins comfortably against both Mezica CC and Prevalje CC by large margins
On 22/08/2020, the SCCG (Grosuplje) played two matches at the Surnik ground in Mezica, Slovenia against Mezica CC and Prevalje CC. The temperature on saturday had soared to the extreme, and all three teams had to play in such conditions.
The SCCG won the toss on saturday against Mezica CC and elected to bat first. The openers Jimmy and Vikram gave a dream start with run rate of well over 15 rpo. Jimmy eventually got out for 48 in just 19 balls, while Vikram went on to score 101* in just 43 balls. Both batsmen scored runs in boundaries of almost every ball. The middle order – shyam, karthik and adil also put up many runs on the board carrying the SCCG total to 265/4 in the allotted 20 overs.
With the weather conditions taking a toll on the Mezica CC players, the team could put 107 runs on the board in return for 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The bowling attack of SCCG also restricted the Mezica CC batsmen, Jimmy and Pratik with two wickets each and Adil and Karthik with one wicket each. The opening batsman Gasper Bakac was the only one who put up a patient fight with a score of 43 in 39 balls. The score sheets displayed below gives a summary of the match.
The second match of the SCCG was with Prevalje CC scheduled at 15:00 pm at the same ground. The SCCG won the toss again and elected to bat first. The openers this time Pratik and Pradeep started out with two sixes of the first two balls (pratik) before getting out of a well positioned catch. The No. 3 batsman for SCCG Karthik and the opener pradeep put up a partnership of 103 runs in 9 overs, with pradeep scoring 45 off 30 balls and KArthik scoring 76 of 43 balls. Gulfam and Waqas came in at no. 4 and no.5 respectively and scored a flurry of runs to put up another massive target of 230 in 20 overs.
With just 7 players, Prevalje faced a large target with determination but in the end could manage to score a total of 77 before losing all their wickets in 15.5 overs. The scoresheet summarizing the match is found below.
With two wins on the trott for SCCG (Grosuplje), the team is now placed on the top of the Group B and will play the second position team from the Group A in the Semifinal 1 at Valburga, Slovenia at a later date.
